SMG, the leader in privately managed public assembly facilities has an excellent and immediate opening for a Senior Event Managerat the Greater Columbus Convention Center. The Senior Event Manager is responsible for supervising and participate in the implementation of the event planning/coordination process and related services. Interact with clients, facility staff, in-house contractors and related personnel to assure set-up and smooth operations of events. Supervise, train and schedule Event Managers.
Assists Director of Event Management in assigned duties including but not limited to department budgetary preparations, tracking and development of policies and procedures for efficient operation of the department
Responsible for recruiting, supervising, scheduling, training and discipline of Event Managers
Administers performance evaluations for Event Management staff
Acts as liaison between Event Management staff and all operational departments
Serves as administrative contact for clients and Event Management during events to facilitate any unusual issues.
Coordinate events as assigned. Assigns upcoming events to Event Managers
Supervises event schedules; authorizes the accuracy of all final event settlement billings before forwarding to Director of Event Management for final approval.
Conducts weekly production meetings with Event Mangers and operational departments
Conducts bi-weekly “touch base” meetings with Event Managers to discuss issues and events.
Serves as assigned Event Manager for selected events during the year and as coverage Event Manager as required
Must have the ability to interact with guests in a friendly, courteous and polite manner. This will include initiating contact with guests within 10 feet – i.e. smiling, saying “Good Day” or helping when needed.
Must feel comfortable when around large groups or speaking to a guest, as needed
Understands the importance of providing customer service and in understanding of “The Magic is in the Details”
Must obtain and maintain employer sponsored Certified Tourism Ambassador (CTA) certification, if applicable.
Other duties as required or assigned.
Knowledge: A good knowledge of the principles of administration as they relate to provision of facilities, services and equipment in a large convention/ exhibition/ entertainment center; a general knowledge of the services, vendors, union jurisdictions or other organizations involved in producing major events.
Skills/Aptitudes: Must possess sound skills in planning, organizing and logistics; excellent interpersonal skills, and oral and written communication skills. This position requires the ability to respond politely to all individuals and work well as a team player.
Working Conditions: Activities occur both inside and outside the center – some exposure to adverse weather conditions; ability to work flexible hours in addition to normal business hours, as needed; ability to stand on feet for extended periods of time.
A minimum of three years actual experience in public facility management, promotion, or operation of conventions or trade shows or service related operation whose primary function is to provide direct on-site service to the public.
Good customer service skills and positive attitude
Minimum of two years college level work in a hospitality program and or sales or marketing related program preferred.
